Deep Crafter Pro Tips: 15 Things I Wish I Knew Before Starting

2026-06-09·Tips & Tricks

I'm 60 hours into Deep Crafter's Early Access and I'm still finding things the tutorial never mentioned. Here are 15 tips that would have saved me dozens of hours of frustration.

Mining & Exploration

1. The scanner ping trick. Rapidly toggle your scanner on and off (spam right-click) while swimming. The effective detection range jumps from 20m to about 30m. The devs know about this and have said they're keeping it as a "feature." Use it when hunting for rare ores at new depths.

2. Ore veins have a spawn bias. In my experience — and this is purely anecdotal from about 40 hours of mapping — mineral deposits cluster in the upper-left quadrant of each roughly 50x50m chunk. Check that direction first when the scanner pings. It's not 100% reliable but it's right often enough to save time.

3. Crystal deposits respawn every 3 in-game days. Mark every crystal location with a beacon (2 copper + 1 iron, craftable from the start). I have about 20 beacons scattered across my map and I run a crystal farming route every few sessions. Crystal is needed for O2 Candles, scanner upgrades, and advanced electronics. You cannot have too much.

4. The fastest way down is also the most efficient. Build a 3x3 vertical shaft with ladder segments every 10 meters. It costs about 200 iron + 50 gold but it turns a 5-minute swim from 500m to surface into a 30-second climb. Build an O2 refill station at the bottom and another in the middle — you arrive with full oxygen every time.

5. Thermal vents show up on the scanner as bright orange signatures. When you're exploring a new depth zone, scan constantly and mark every thermal vent. Future you will thank present you when it's time to build a mining outpost and you already know where the power source is.

Production & Automation

6. One smelter can feed two assemblers if you use a splitter. This sounds obvious to Factorio players but Deep Crafter's tutorial never mentions splitters. They unlock at Tier 2 for 5 tech points. Build one immediately.

7. Conveyor belts can go vertically if you use the ramp placement mode. Hold Shift while placing a conveyor segment to angle it up or down. This lets you build multi-level factories without vertical lifts for short distances. The ramp maxes out at about 45 degrees.

8. The bio-cultivation system is a resource multiplier that most players miss. You can grow Glowshrooms in a cultivation tank and they produce passive oxygen in your base. A 3x3 tank fully stocked produces enough O2 to run your entire base without a refill station. It takes about 2 hours to set up but the payoff is permanent free oxygen.

9. Don't spend gold on decorations. I know the base building is satisfying, I know you want to make it look good. But every gold bar should go toward O2 upgrades and advanced electronics until you have Mk3 everything. I spent 50 gold on windows and lighting at hour 15 and regretted it for the next 10 hours.

10. Build a Battery Buffer before you need it. When your power consumption exceeds generation — and it will, because you'll keep adding machines — everything shuts off. Including your O2 refill station. A Battery Buffer stores excess power during low-demand periods and discharges during peaks. It costs 20 copper + 10 gold and it has saved my factory from blackout at least 5 times.

Combat & Survival

11. Abyssal Stalkers have a predictable patrol route. They swim in a roughly circular pattern around a central point. Watch one for 30 seconds before engaging and you'll see the loop. Position yourself at the far end of the loop and wait — it'll swim right past you, exposing its back. One harpoon shot to the head ends the fight before it starts.

12. Void Phantoms always teleport behind you on the third attack. Count their attacks — one, two, and on three, immediately 180-turn and fire. The timing is tight but once you learn it, Phantoms go from terrifying to routine.

13. You can build inside boss arenas. Before engaging the Crystal Guardian, I placed two O2 refill stations against the cave walls and connected them to a geothermal generator outside. The Guardian doesn't aggro until you swim into the center of the arena. This makes the fight about 40% less stressful.

14. Heat Resistance Modules stack. You have two suit upgrade slots — put a Heat Resistance Module in both before the Lava Wyrm fight. The damage reduction is multiplicative, not additive, but two modules still cut fire breath damage by roughly 45%. One module alone only gives about 25% reduction.

15. The Underground Trader is real and he's worth finding. He spawns randomly at 200-400m depth near natural cave formations with purple-glowing flora. He trades rare materials for common ones — I've gotten titanium ingots for excess copper, ruby for iron. His inventory rotates every 3 in-game days. Check him whenever you pass through his depth range.
